The Josh Billings Triathlon was first held in 1976, making it one of the oldest triathlons in the United States. It is named after an American humorist, Henry Wheeler Shaw, who was born in Lanesboro, Massachusetts on April 12, 1818. Shaw was one of the most famous writers of his time, often compared to Mark Twain.

The event includes a 27 mile bike race, a 5 mile canoe/kayak/SUP race, and a 6-mile run. It attracts over 500 competitors and finishes with a ‘Josh’ bash and awards ceremony. The event is also socially-minded, with lots of local and regional support.

The Josh Billings Challenge is a worthy charity event, and the proceeds of the event will benefit local charities. It is open to people of all abilities.
